How to connect the Metal Vent From the Back of the Dryer
Time:2016-08-04 Read:1024 Time

The dryer vent duct at the back of a dryer serves to discharge hot and moist air during the operation of machines. The dryer roll, a heating element or a gas burner light up and this hot air is swirled around your clothing and discharged from the vent at the back of the dryer. Most dryers discharge this air through an outside vent that is connected with a hose. The right way to installing the vent hose is the key to hooking up the metal vent on the back of a dryer.

1.   Determine the type of dryer duct that is correct for your situation. If the dryer vent and the outside vent are directly above and below each other, solid metal duct is preferred with two 90-degree angles. If the vents are in different locations, a flexible metal duct works best.

2. Protect solid ducts together beginning at the metal vent at the back of the dryer and work your way up to the outside vent. The dryer vent pieces leading away from the dryer are considered as the "male" part. These pieces are always inserted inside the duct during the run. For instance, the vent duct on the back of the dryer is inserted into the next piece of duct; that piece of duct is inserted into a 90-degree bend upward, and then another 90-degree end of the duct is inserted into the following duct as it rises toward the exhaust duct vent. Cut the duct to the length you needed with a wiss snips while wearing gloves. Once the ducts are in the place, wrap the joints with metal tape and to seal them. Do not insert any screws, because the threads will collect lint and begin to clog the duct.

3.   Please attach a flexible duct in the same way. The metal vent duct on the back of the dryer is inserted into the flexible duct and at the end of the duct is inserted into the exhaust hole vent. Protect the ends with band clamps of the correct size. Tighten them down firmly. Lots of flexible dryer ducts begin at band clamps so there is no guesswork about how large they need to be.

Tips

l  Flatten the end of a corrugated flexible duct so it slides easily over the metal vent duct on the back of the dryer. Place the flexible duct on the floor and -- using a piece of duct or a dowel -- insert it about 4 inches inside, press down on the pieces and roll it over the corrugations. Turn the flexible duct as you go until the entire diameter has been flattened.

l  Do regular maintenance on your vent duct. Check monthly for clogging in the duct and clean off the outside vent to maintain an unobstructed airflow.

Warning

l  Never connect your dryer to flexible plastic dutcs. These tend to clog over time and can become a fire hazard.
